Maryland Del. Waldstreicher Introduces Crucial Women’s Legislation
-Roe v. Wade is More Important Now Than Ever -
Annapolis, MD— In commemoration of Roe v. Wade’s 35th Anniversary, Delegate Waldstreicher will introduce legislation to protect women’s rights by regulating dangerous “crisis pregnancy centers.”
“I strongly believe in protecting personal freedom and a woman’s right to choose. On the occasion of Roe v. Wade’s anniversary, my bill will continue to ensure this threatened right here in Maryland.” Waldstreicher said.
Thirty Five years ago the Supreme Court established that women have a constitutional right to privacy in the case of Roe v. Wade. In an effort to ensure women receive safe and medically accurate information about their health, Delegate Waldstreicher is introducing a consumer protection bill that will protect women from so-called “crisis pregnancy centers.” These centers provide false and dangerously inaccurate medical information to women seeking the full range of reproductive healthcare.
Ariana Kelly is the Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland. “Our research shows that so-called crisis pregnancy centers provide false information to vulnerable women. We support Del. Waldstreicher’s proposed law because it puts an end to this fraud,” Kelly stated.
Prior to being elected, Delegate Waldstreicher served as Chair of NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland and continues to champion women’s rights
Delegate Waldstreicher represents Montgomery County’s 18th District, which includes Silver Spring, Wheaton, Chevy Chase, and portions of Rockville and Bethesda. Elected in 2006, he is working to keep our schools on the cutting edge, preserve the environment, and protect civil liberties.
