Women's Legislative Briefing
Key issues of interest to women and families will be discussed at the 28th annual Women’s Legislative Briefing to be held on January 27, from 12:30 to 5 p.m., at the National 4-H Conference Center, 7100 Connecticut Ave., Chevy Chase. Co-sponsored by more than 50 women’s and community organizations and coordinated by the Montgomery County Commission for Women, the free event will address legislative proposals being considered in the upcoming sessions of the Maryland General Assembly and U.S. Congress.
Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and County Council President Mike Knapp will give welcoming remarks.
The keynote address will be presented by Irene Natividad, president of the Global Summit of Women, an annual international gathering of women leaders from around the world. Natividad also chaired the National Commission on Working Women and was president of the National Women's Political Caucus. Her views are aired on PBS’s “To The Contrary,” CNN, “Crossfire,” “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” Fox News and MSNBC.
The Briefing will include workshops that will cover a variety of topics, including: Women and Health; Women and Immigration; Women and the Law; Women and the Economy; Women and Politics: Effective Advocacy – Understanding the Budget and Legislative Process; and newly added this year, Women and Politics: Running a Campaign for Political Office. The program will conclude with a reception with County and State elected officials.
