Condom Lessons Ruled Out At Alternative Carroll School
Condom lessons ruled out at alternative Carroll school Published March 04, 2008 WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) - Efforts to curb risky sexual behavior at an alternative school for troubled teenagers in Carroll County won't include lessons about condoms.
The Gateway School and county health officials had wanted to use a curriculum called Making Proud Choices. The program stresses abstinence but also includes material about condoms. County school board members said the lessons would need to be changed to fit with the county's abstinence-based policies.
The county's assistant superintendent of curriculum, Steve Johnson, says it isn't worth it to alter the program to meet the county standards. Superintendent Chuck Ecker says officials will consider teaching abstinence at Gateway.
