Md. GOP House Caucus budget plan would cut $830 million
According to the Hagerstown Herald-mail, Republican lawmakers in the Maryland House of Delegates have presented a plan for $830 million budget cuts. The proposal includes a cut that would elimimate government funding abortion services for low-income women. This suggested change would cause state Medicaid funding to mirror restrictive federal policies. Del. Anthony J. O'Donnell, the House minority leader, and Del. Christopher B. Shank, R-Washington believe that these cuts are necessary to avoid tax increase, but fail to acknowledge the undue hardship it will cause Maryland women seeking reproductive health care.
