Pro-Choice Maryland is currently working on a number of important projects.
PHARMACY ACCESS TO BIRTH CONTROL AND EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION
After hearing troubling reports about women being denied prescriptions for birth control and EC, we began conducting research on Maryland pharmacies.
Our Pharmacy Access report will be published in July. The results of this research will help us determine how serious a problem pharmacist refusal to fill prescriptions is in Maryland. This will also help us determine where in the state we should focus our pharmacist education and outreach programs.
After the Maryland legislature passes the Emergency Contraception Access bill, pro-choice groups will need to work closely with our pharmacist allies to recruit them for training programs that will allow pharmacists to prescribe Emergency Contraception.
COMPREHENSIVE SEXUALITY EDUCATION IN MARYLAND
We support comprehensive sexuality education for all Maryland students.
NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland had a representative on the disbanded Montgomery County Citizen's Advisory Committee that developed the proposed new Sex Ed curriculum. The curriculum that was developed included a very important video demonstrating condom use. After a lawsuit from an anti-choice group calling themselves Citizens for a Responsible Curriculum, and another group, Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays, the condom demonstration video was dropped from the curriculum and the committee was disbanded.
Montgomery County is now forming a new Citizens Advisory Committee to revamp the curriculum all over again! We are committed to ensuring a condom demonstration video is part of the curriculum.
If you want to promote comprehensive, medically accurate sex ed, Click Here to apply to be on the new Family Life and Human Development Advisory Committee. Only Montgomery County residents are eligible.
