Communications Internship

NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland (NPCM), the state's largest grassroots pro-choice organization, has been working to protect choice for nearly 30 years.

 

Our mission is to develop and sustain a constituency that uses the political process to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion.

 

NPCM is seeking a communications intern to provide technical support, help with on-line outreach efforts, and assistance with general oral and written communications. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create thought-provoking and relevant entries on NPCM’s blog on a regular basis
  • Maintain Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking profiles; track membership details
  • Compile, write, and distribute summaries of daily clips of choice-related news from a variety of news sources
  • Assist with the production of monthly e-newsletters
  • Update website
  • Expand internet outreach efforts
  • Help staff with day-to-day office operations
  • Assist with other organizational projects as needed

 

Qualified applicants will:

·         Possess excellent writing, researching, and editing skills; familiar with Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel and social networking sites

·         Possess strong organizational/multi-tasking skills and have an ability to meet deadlines on time

·         Be a self starter who can take initiative on individual projects

·         Be able to work well alone and in cooperative decision-making settings

·          Support the full range of reproductive options for women including birth control, bearing healthy children, adoption, and safe, legal abortion.

 

This is an unpaid internship, but offers the opportunity to gain a range of meaningful experience. Class credit may be arranged with your college or university.  Scheduling is flexible based on applicant’s schedule.  A minimum of 20 hours per week is required.  Occasional evenings and weekends required. Early September start date preferred.

Programs Internship

NPCM is seeking a Programs Intern to provide to work on a variety of issues, provide staff support, and learn the inner workings of a non-profit organization.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Help staff conduct educational outreach activities about relevant choice issues including, but not limited to, staffing community festivals and volunteer events.
  • Assist with planning and implementing of signature annual fundraiser and other events
  • Conduct research on various reproductive health issues
  • Help with acquisition of new members and updating membership information

 

Qualified applicants will:

·         Be a self-starter who is able to take initiative on individual projects

·         Be a strong writer, researcher, and editor; familiar with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and the Internet

·         Possess strong interpersonal communication skills

·         Possess strong organizational/multi-tasking skills, attention to detail and have an ability to meet  deadlines on time

·         Possess ability to work well independently and in cooperative decision-making settings

·          Must support the full range of reproductive options for women including birth control, bearing healthy children, adoption, and safe, legal abortion.
